Indomitable Music: Overcoming the Obstacles
With guest conductor Daniel Warren
Over the centuries, many composers have faced discrimination or oppression: women in a “man’s world”, Jews in Europe, blacks in a “white world”, non-conformists in autocratic societies …. Yet, in spite of the obstacles, some of these composers have created wonderful music. We present works by six of these composers, including:
Amy Beach, Gaelic Symphony selections
Lili Boulanger, D’un matin du printemps
Sergei Prokofiev, Introduction to Cinderella Ballet
Erich Korngold, Straussiana
Joseph Bologne, Symphony No.2
Paul Hindemith, Symphonic Metamorphosis
