An Evening of Opera Favourites
Cassandra Amorim, Guest Soloist
Cassandra Amorim, soprano, is a Canadian artist of Portuguese and Romanian heritage, praised for her voice of “power and precision.” This fall, she will make her debut with Toronto City Opera as Nedda in Pagliacci and returns to the glittering world of Puccini as Magda in La Rondine with Good Mess Opera Theatre, a role she first performed with Voicebox: Opera in Concert earlier in the 2024–2025 season. In the summer of 2025, Cassandra premiered The Gatherers, a new oratorio by Canadian composer Justin Lapierre, and participated in Dolora Zajick’s Institute for Young Dramatic Voices. In spring 2025, she was a resident artist at the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance – Bel Canto Academy. A lifelong musician, Cassandra grew up in the orchestra pit as a violinist, falling in love with opera one overture at a time—until she stepped onto the stage herself. She has been grateful for every moment since.
“Cassandra Amorim’s depiction of the ill-fated Nedda was poignant and displayed vocal virtuosity as she moved from her warm-toned love duet with Silvio to chilling high notes in her final moments onstage. As the only female lead in a male-dominated opera, Amorim held her own with her well-supported singing and powerful stage presence.” (Dawn Martens, Opera Canada, Nov 21, 2025)
Cassandra talks about her life in music and preparing for the WCP concert in the January / February 2026 edition of The Music Times. Read the article here.
